Men's Hockey gets first win of the season in home opener

MEQUON, Wis. –Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Hockey fell behind early to Lake Forest but the Falcons would respond with four unanswered goals to give them a 4-1 win, which was their first win of the season.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lake Forest jumped out to an early 1-0 lead only 4:04 into the opening period. CUW had a few good opportunities to tie the game but could not find the net in the first period.
- The Falcons came out firing in the second period, outshooting the Foresters 17-7 in the second period and finding the net three times in the second period.
- CUW would tie the game 8:31 into the second period as freshman Connor Hogg (London, Ontario) sent in his first career collegiate goal. Freshman Erik Therrien (Willow Bunch, Saskatchewan) assisted on the Hogg score.
- The Falcons would take the lead just over four minutes later as freshman Adam Fauchoux (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan) would net his first collegiate goal off an assist from sophomores Anthony Pickering (Sylvan Lake, Alberta) and Travis Marit (Assiniboia, Saskatchewan).
- CUW would add to their lead with less than two minutes left in the second period as Marit sent the puck into the back of the net giving them a 3-1 lead. Juniors Tanner Bull (Brooklin, Ontario) and Brandt Weldon (The Pas, Manitoba) assisted on the goal.
- In the final period of play, the Foresters outshot the Falcons 12-4 but CUW played some outstanding defense and added to their lead on an empty net goal by Hogg with under a minute left in the period for his second goal of the game.
- CUW would go onto win the game 4-1 and with the win it forced a shootout to determine which team would take home the Border Battle Cup after the Lake Forest victory the previous night. Lake Forest would win the shootout 2-1 and retained the cup. The shootout result has no effect on either team's record.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Freshman goalie Andy Munroe faced 26 shots on the night and saved 25 of them. Munroe played big down the stretch allowing the Falcons to keep their lead.
- Despite committing eight penalties, the Falcons power play defense did not allow one goal when they were a man down.
- The Foresters won the Border Battle Cup for the second year in a row.

UP NEXT
- CUW travels to rival MSOE next Friday, Nov. 6 and then they return home on Saturday, Nov. 7 to take on the Raiders for the second time. The puck drops at 7 pm on both nights.
