CUW Opens Play at ITA Midwest Regionals

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The CUW women's tennis team opened play the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Championships on Friday.

In the ITA Singles draw, sophomore Mallory Moen (Neenah, Wis.) fell to Edgewood's Fuchs, 6-0,-6-2.

Freshman Cheyenne Phillips (Morris, Ill.) folded Molly Tueth of Whitewater in the first round with a 6-2, 7-6 victory, she then fell to Madson Schultz of Coe, 6-4, 6-0.

Alex Laux of Gustavus bested senior Ricki Budewitz (Watertown, Wis.) with a 7-5, 7-5 victory.

Sophomore Ashley Samuta (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) sank Whitewater's Ha with a 6-4, 5-7, 10-5 victory. Samuta then downed Sasha Manojovoc of Carthage with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.

In doubles play, the team of Ricki Budewitz and Ashley Samuta secured an 8-3 victory over Carroll. The duo then upset the No. 10 seed from Carthage with an 8-7 (2) victory.

The Cobbers of Concordia Morehead downed Cheyanne Phillips and senior Mia Andrae (Cedarburg, Wis.) with an 8-6 victory.

Sophomore Jordana Burkeland (Oregon, Wis.) was upended in the Midwest Singles B draw with a 6-3, 6-1 loss to Jersi McAlpine of Hamline.

Freshman Peyton Morgan (Arlington Heights, Ill.) lost to Kiley Nolan of Luther in Midwest Single C draw, 6-2, 6-3.

Freshman Karen Frerking (Fort Wayne, Ind.) came up short in Midwest Singles D Draw against Claudia Bilkey of Coe, 6-2, 6-0.

Freshman Maya Kunze (Stevens Point, Wis.) dropped the match to Concordia Morehead's Hacker, 6-3, 4-6, 10-2.

Senior Elizabeth Johnson (Hubertus, Wis.) fell to Maddy Coopmans of Edgewood, 6-7 (4), 6-2, 10-3 in Midwest Singles G.

Sophomore Auden Pearson (Kaukauna, Wis.) was picked off was picked off by Fuqua of Coe, 6-1, 6-1.

The team of Mallory Moen and Elizabeth Johnson went undefeated in the Midwest Doubles B Draw with an 8-5 victory over Edgewood and an 8-6 victory over Macalester.

The team of Pearson and Werning fell to Eau-Claire, 8-3 and Frerking and Kunze lost to Concordia Morehead, 8-6.

Falcons competed in other courts, but the scores were not yet submitted online yet by UWW.

The Falcons continue to compete on Saturday.
