Women’s Tennis Dominates NACC Duo
NEW BERLIN, Wis. – The CUW women's tennis team flexed their muscles on Saturday as they downed Wisconsin Lutheran and Alverno in a pair of NACC matches. The Falcons opened the day with an 8-1 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran and closed the day with a 9-0 sweep of Alverno. The victories send CUW to 3-0 on the year and to 2-0 in the NACC. Wisconsin Lutheran moves to 1-2 on the year and Alverno falls to 0-3.
The Falcons doubles teams gave the Warriors trouble to start the day. Sophomore Mallory Moen (Neenah, Wis.) and sophomore Jordana Burkeland (Oregon, Wis.) cruised at No. 3 doubles with an 8-1 victory.
Senior Mia Andrae (Cedarburg, Wis.) and freshman Cheyanne, Phillips (Morris, Ill.) flipped over the Warriors on court two, 8-5.
Senior Ricki Budewitz (Watertown, Wis.) and sophomore Ashley Samuta (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) secured the sweep with an 8-7 (10-2) victory at No. 1 doubles.
Mia Andrae overwhelmed Amanda Wietrzny at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-0.
At No. 3 singles, Cheyanne Phillips hammered Kaytlyn Hartfield, 6-4, 6-0.
Ricki Budewitz sank Jenna Smith on court one, 6-0, 7-5.
Mallory Moen handled Izzy Hawley with ease at No. 4 singles with a 6-1, 6-3 victory.
Ashley Samuta closed the book on WLC with a 67-5, 6-1 victory over Katelynn Haskell at No. 2 singles.
The Falcons wasted no time in extinguishing the Inferno on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Maya Kunze (Stevens Point, Wis.) and freshman Karen Frerking (Fort Wayne, Ind.) won 8-0 at No. 3 doubles to start the day. Sophomore Auden Pearson (Kaukauna, Wis.) and freshman Mya Werning (Watertown, Wis.) secured an 8-2 victory at No. 2 doubles and Jordana Burkeland and freshman Peyton Morgan (Arlington Heights, Ill.) swept the Inferno away on court one.
Peyton Morgan, Maya Kunze and Mya Werning all swept their opponents away, 6-0, 6-0, for their first collegiate singles victories.
Karen Frerking silenced Dani Herrara at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-0.
Auden Pearson passed Morgan Golabowski at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1.
Jordana Burkeland bounced Kalie Hanna at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-2.
CUW looks to keep the ball rolling on Saturday against Lakeland and Marian.
