Falcons Top IIT in a Battle of Unbeaten NACC Teams

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW women's tennis team picked up a key NACC victory on Sunday morning in a battle of unbeaten teams in the NACC against Illinois Tech. The Falcons sank the Scarlet Hawks with an 8-1 victory to improve to 7-0 on the year and 6-0 in the NACC.

The Falcons remained unbeaten in doubles play on the year with three victories to start Sunday morning.

Senior Ricki Budewitz (Watertown, Wis.) and sophomore Ashley Samuta (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) blitzed the Scarlet Hawks at No. 1 doubles, 8-2.

Senior Elizabeth Johnson (Hubertus, Wis.) and sophomore Mallory Moen (Neenah, Wis.) picked up an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles.

Senior Mia Andrae (Cedarburg, Wis.) and freshman Cheyanne Phillips (Morris, Ill.) secured the doubles sweep with an 8-6 victory.

Elizabeth Johnson cruised in a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Leah Mirch at  No. 6 singles.

Mallory Moen made quick work of Allyson Trang at No. 4 singles, with a 6-3, 6-0 victory.

Cheyanne Philips picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Kylie Hane at No. 3 singles.

Mia Andrae flexed her muscles and edged Mouna Chahin at No. 5 singles with a 7-6, 7-6 victory.

Ashley Samuta secured a 3-6, 6-4, 12-10 victory over Natalie Hamill at No. 2 singles, for the final point of the day for the Falcons.

The Falcons will compete at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships on Friday. NACC play resumes on Oct. 2 at MSOE.
