DECORAH, Iowa – The CUW women's tennis team battled a pair of regionally ranked teams in No. 16 Luther and No. 13 Wisconsin - La Crosse on Sunday. The Falcons opened the day with a 7-2 loss to Luther and closed the day with an 6-3 loss to Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Senior Ricki Budewitz (Watertown, Wis.) and sophomore Ashley Samuta (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) downed the Norse at No. 1 doubles with an 8-6 victory.
Senior Mia Andrae (Cedarburg, Wis.) and freshman Cheyanne Phillips (Morris, Ill.) put up a fight at No. 2 doubles but fell in a tiebreaker at 7-4.
The duo of Mia Andrae and Cheyanne Phillips struck again against Wisconsin-La Crosse with an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles.
Cheyanne Phillips flipped Hannah Riegle at No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
Ricki Budewitz blew away a regionally ranked opponent in No. 18 Kimberly Steinert at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 7-6 (7).
The Falcons close the regular season on Sunday, April 24 at Carthage.
