Women's Tennis splits home matches with St. Norbert, UW-Stevens Point

CEDARBURG, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin dropped its first match on Saturday by a 9-0 score to St. Norbert College, but then snapped a seven-match losing streak with a much needed 6-3 victory over UW-Stevens Point in non-conference action.

After dropping each doubles and singles match against the Green Knights, the Falcons regained their stroke by overcoming a 2-1 deficit following doubles play with five wins out of a possible singles matches against the Pointers.

CUW earned a No. 2 doubles win when senior Emily McCormick (Waukesha, Wis.) and sophomore Michaela Wagner (Oswego, Ill.) picked up an 8-4 victory. The match then got exciting as it was highlighted by a 6-1, 6-7 (4-7), 10-6 victory by freshman Hannah Tresedder (Kingsford, Mich.) at No. 1 singles. As well, junior Ashley Knoll (Wilmot, Wis.) need extra points to down her No. 6 opponents before winning 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-4).

Wagner breezed past her No. 5 singles opponent with a 6-1, 6-0 victory, while freshman Sabine Jacobsen (Palatine, Ill.) recorded a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles. In addition, McCormick earned a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles to help the Falcons earn their first win this spring.

CUW returns to action on Sunday with non-conference matches against Lake Forest College and Carthage College.
