Women's Tennis concludes spring trip with setbacks

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Concordia University Wisconsin ended its spring break trip with its most competitive match against Grinnell College, but faced a 9-0 setback. The Falcons also lost 9-0 to Bethel University and 9-0 to Calvin College.

Against Bethel on Tuesday, sophomore Michaela Wagner (Oswego, Ill.) earned the most points for the Falcons at No. 6 singles, but she eventually dropped a 6-0, 6-4 decision. In double play, it was the combination of senior Emily McCormick (Waukesha, Wis.) and Wagner, along with freshman Hannah Tresedder (Kingsford, Mich.) and freshman Anna Shanks (Kingsford, Mich.) who each earned two points, but lost 8-2.

On Wednesday, it was again Wagner who pushed her No. 6 single opponent from Calvin College, but this time needing an extra set before a decision made. She captured the opening set 7-6 (6-2), before dropping a 7-5 second set and the third set 10-7. During doubles play, Tresedder and sophomore Alisia Macioch (South St. Paul, Minn.) picked up CUW's only victory, an exciting 9-8 (7-5) victory at No. 3 doubles.

The concluding match of the CUW spring break trip on Thursday was the most competitive against Grinnell College. They did lose 9-0 as a team, but four of the six singles matches featured Falcons earning at least four points. Freshman Sabine Jacobsen (Palatine, Ill.) pushed her No. 3 singles opponent before falling 6-3, 6-4. As well, Tresedder played well against No. 25 Shirlene Luk, but fell short with a 6-2, 6-3 decision.

CUW returns to the court on Saturday, April 11 with home matches against St. Norbert College at 9 am and UW-Stevens Point at 3 pm.
