Knoll, Sapp lead Women's Tennis to pair of NACC victories

AURORA, Ill. – Ashley Knoll and Jessica Sapp led Concordia University Wisconsin to a pair of road Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference victories on Saturday. The Falcons cruised past Aurora University, 8-1, before grinding out a 5-4 win against Benedictine University.

Knoll (junior, Wilmot, Wis.) and Sapp (sophomore, Memphis, Mich.) each won their singles matches on the day and pushed their winning streak to three matches. CUW (2-1, 2-0 NACC) recorded doubles wins in five of its six matches, including two doubles wins by the freshmen duo of Anna Shanks (Kingsford, Mich.) and Hannah Tresedder (Kingsford, Mich.)

The Falcons didn't waste any time against AU, jumping out to a commanding 3-0 lead after doubles play. Tresedder nearly swept her No. 1 singles opponent before setting on a 6-1, 6-0 win, while Knoll had a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles. Sophomore Elizabeth Carroll (Hartford, Wis.) gutted out a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles and Sapp needed extra points for a 1-6, 6-1, 10-7 win at No. 6 singles.

CUW's afternoon match against BU wasn't as easy, as it held a 2-1 advantage after doubles competition. The Tresedder and Shanks team helped the Falcons with an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles. Sapp was impressive during her No. 6 singles match with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout victory. Senior Emily McCormick (Waukesha, Wis.) earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles to help CUW in victory.

The Falcons return to the court on Saturday for a 10 a.m. NACC matchup at Lakeland College.
