Klumpp reaches 100 career points, Women's Soccer clinches NACC two seed

MEQUON, Wis. – Junior Brittany Klumpp became the third Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Soccer player during the NACC era to reach 100 career points, leading the Falcons past Wisconsin Lutheran College, 4-0, Tuesday afternoon. The win clinches the No. 2 seed in the NACC Tournament for CUW, who will now host a semifinal round match next Tuesday.

Klumpp (Rubicon, Wis.) reached the milestone in the 65th minute when she scored from about eight yards out. The goal was the 18th of the season for the junior and the 45th of her career. She gave the Falcons a 3-0 lead at the time on the unassisted score. Klumpp is now exactly at 100 points (45 goals, 10 assists) as she entered play with 98 career points.

Klumpp's goal came as part of a second-half surge for CUW which it scored three times in six minutes. Junior Jaclyn Theune (Oostburg, Wis.) netted the first goal of the stretch with an unassisted score in the 60th minute. Just 1:07 after Klumpp scored, junior Emily Ciesielczyk (Waukesha, Wis.) netted her fourth goal in the past three matches off an assist from senior Anna Hirssig.

It was Hirssig (Rochester, Minn.) who started the Falcons scoring on Tuesday. She sent one in from 10 yards out of a pass from Ciesielczyk, as each player finished with a match-best three points. The Hirssig score gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead at the break, with CUW holding a 15-4 edge in shots. Sophomore keeper Ariana Worthing (Saginaw, Mich.) made three first-half saves to keep the Warriors scoreless in the opening 45 minutes. Worthing finished the match with four saves for the shutout win.

The Falcons flew around even more in the second half, resulting in an 18-1 advantage in shots and three goals scored. Junior Carley Pfannerstill (Grafton, Wis.) led all players with eight shots, while sophomore Halie Schieffer (Belgium, Wis.) and freshman McKenna Kowalski (Milwaukee, Wis.) added five each.

The Warriors finished with five shots in the match, two coming from Mandy Schnell. WLC keeper Rachel Sebald made nine saves.

CUW (13-5-0, 8-2-0 NACC) will now await the first round NACC Tournament matchups to see who will visit Fitting Field next Tuesday afternoon. If Edgewood College, who enters the tournament as the No. 3 seed and will face sixth-seeded MSOE Saturday, wins the Eagles will play CUW. If Edgewood falls in its opening-round match, CUW will take on either No. 4 Dominican University or No. 5 Marian University. A time has yet to be determined.
