Women's Soccer routs Alverno for seventh-straight win

MILWAUKEE – Four goals in each half allowed the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Soccer team to defeat Alverno College, 8-0, in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play Saturday afternoon. The Falcons win was their seventh straight, three of those matches coming in league play.

The seventh straight win for CUW marks the longest streak during the Ryan Middendorf era (2003-present). CUW previously had a six-match winning streak during the 2012 season.

Juniors Carley Pfannerstill and Brittany Klumpp each scored two goals for the Falcons once again as each player has now reached double-digit goals this season. Klumpp leads the team with 11, while Pfannerstill has beat the opposing keeper 10 times.

Klumpp (Rubicon, Wis.) added an assist and finished with a match-best five points. Sophomore Abigail Freeland led the team with two assists and nine different Falcons recorded a point in the win. Freshman Santina Bianco (Iron Mountain, Mich.) had her first career point with an assist in the second half.

Freshman Tabitha Ortiz (Plainfield, Ill.) posted her fourth straight shutout for the Falcons. Ortiz now has a scoreless streak of 361:04 and has yet to allow a goal in four matches started this season. She didn't have much work on Saturday, facing just one shot and recording a save. Kaitlyn Gallinatti, the Inferno keeper, was much more busy, as she finished with 12 saves, while facing 20 shots.

The Falcons took a 1-0 lead Saturday as defender Krista Oelhafen (Allenton, Wis.) netted her first goal in a CUW uniform. She took a pass from Freeland (Grafton, Wis.) and scored from 15 yards out on the right side just 2:52 into play.

Pfannerstill (Grafton, Wis.) would score her first goal at the 7:40 mark, while freshman McKenna Kowalski (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored her first career goal at the 12:47 mark to give CUW a 3-0 edge. Senior Anna Hirssig (Rochester, Minn.), who scored a goal of her own in the second half, was credited with an assist on the Kowalski score.

Junior Emily Ciesielczyk (Waukesha, Wis.) gave the Falcons a 4-0 lead just 13:43 into play, recording an unassisted goal, her third of the season.

In the second half, Pfannerstill started the scoring off an assist from Klumpp. Hirssig then made the score 6-0, while Klumpp had the final two Falcons goals of the afternoon. Sophomore Breanne Thomas (Oconomowoc, Wis.) had an assist on one of the Klumpp goals, while Bianco assisted on the other.

CUW finished with 36 shots in the match, outshooting the Inferno 36-1. Hirssig led all players with seven shots, while Pfannerstill finished with a match-best five shots on goal. The Falcons also had a 14-0 edge in corner kicks as much of play was in the CUW offensive zone.

CUW (7-2-0, 3-0-0) will look to continue its impressive win streak in a non-conference match against Carthage College Tuesday. The contest is set for a 4 p.m. start from Fitting Field.
