Late goal sends UW-Whitewater past Women's Soccer

WHITEWATER, Wis. – UW-Whitewater scored with 1:04 left in regulation, ending the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Soccer teams upset bid in non-conference action. The goal helped UWW down the Falcons 2-1 on Wednesday night. 

After a scoreless first half, both teams turned up the offense in the second half beginning with a UWW goal just 3:02 after the break. Carina Krausert scored off a Jenna Woodson pass to put the Warhawks up 1-0.

The 1-0 lead would hold until junior Brittany Klumpp (Rubicon, Wis.) evened the score at 1-1 at the 70:46 mark. Freshman McKenna Kowalski (Milwaukee, Wis.) recorded her first career collegiate point with an assist on the Klumpp score.

The 1-1 score remained until Brianna Reid scored with 1:04 remaining, handing the Falcons a second straight loss. Reid's game-winner was assisted by Sierra Becker and helped move UWW to 1-1-0 on the season. The Warhawks were preseason ranked but dropped out after a season-opening loss to No. 22 Loras College.

The Falcons finished the match with a 20-11 edge in shots, including a 13-3 advantage in the scoreless first half. CUW also had an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal as junior Carley Pfannerstill (Grafton, Wis.) led the team with five on goal and nine shots total. Klumpp added five shots, while Krausert and Reid paced the Warhawks with three apiece.

CUW again split the goalkeeper duties starting sophomore Ariana Worthing (Saginaw, Mich.) and finishing the contest with freshman Tabitha Ortiz (Plainfield, Ill.). Worthing did not face any shots on goal in her half, while Ortiz made one save, finishing with the loss for CUW. Jordan Myers made seven saves in the win for the Warhawks.

CUW will return to action Saturday when they host St. Norbert in the 2014 home-opener. The match at Fitting Field is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start and live audio and stats will be available at CUWFalcons.com.
