Women's Soccer stopped by Marian in NACC road match

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Despite owning a 21-9 edge in shots, the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Soccer team could not solve Marian goalkeeper Caitlyn Rosenburger in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play at Smith Field. Rosenburger made 15 saves as the Falcons dropped their second straight match, falling 3-1.

After a slow first half, one which saw Marian build a 2-0 lead and hold an 8-4 edge in shots, the Falcons dominated possession over the final 45 minutes. CUW totaled 17 shots compared to just one for the Sabres, but each team was able to put a goal on the board, resulting in the 3-1 final.

Rosenburger made 12 of her 15 saves after the break, sending away shot after shot taken by the Falcons. Freshman Tabitha Ortiz (Plainfield, Ill.) saw her six-match winning streak at keeper snapped in the loss, making three saves in the process.

Senior Anna Hirssig (Rochester, Minn.) scored the lone Falcons goal, coming with just 4:15 left in regulation. Junior Emily Ciesielczyk (Waukesha, Wis.) sent a corner kick the way of Hirrsig, who was there with the left foot for her sixth goal of the year.

Marian (7-6-0, 4-2-0 NACC) got two first-half goals to build a 2-0 lead before adding a third goal in the 84th minute. Laura Maly assisted on both first-half goals for the Sabres, while Brittany Syms, Leisa Conn and Mikaila Johnson finished with the goals.

Hirssig led all players with five shots, while junior Carley Pfannerstill (Grafton, Wis.) and senior Ashley Apazeller (Jackson, Wis.) each tallied four.

CUW (9-5-0, 4-2-0 NACC) will look to snap its two-match skid Saturday in a road match at MSOE. The Falcons and Raiders are set for a 1:00 p.m. start.
