Women's Soccer downs UW-Stout for third straight win

MEQUON, Wis. – The duo of Carley Pfannerstill and Brittany Klumpp keep scoring goals and the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Soccer continues to play well as the Falcons won their third straight contest Saturday afternoon. CUW downed UW-Stout by a 3-1 score at Fitting Field.

Klumpp scored two goals and Pfannerstill added another as the two juniors have combined for 12 of the team's 14 goals this season. Klumpp now has seven goals on the season, including five over the past two matches, while Pfannerstill has found the back of the net five times.

Sophomore Ariana Worthing (Saginaw, Mich.) moved her record to 2-0-0 on the season, making four saves in the process. The Falcons are now 3-0-0 since head coach Ryan Middendorf made the switch to alternating matches for Worthing and freshman Tabitha Ortiz (Plainfield, Ill.), rather than rotating halves. Both goalies have responded, allowing a combined one goal over the last 270 minutes of soccer.

It was Pfannerstill (Grafton, Wis.) who got CUW on the board Saturday with an unassisted goal at the 22:06 mark. Pfannerstill played the ball off a rebound from a UW-Stout defender and beat the keep from about 10 yards out, giving the Falcons a 1-0 edge.

Klumpp (Rubicon, Wis.) would make the score 2-0 with 7:43 remaining in the half when she scored off a rebound after a shot from junior Emily Ciesielczyk (Waukesha, Wis.). Both Klumpp's goals were rebound goals as she added one in the second half off an assist from freshman Breanne Thomas (Oconomowoc, Wis.).

The lone Blue Devils score came off the foot of Sarah Todey just 57 seconds after CUW went up 2-0. Todey took a pass from Nikki Sedivy and launched a shot from 19 yards out. It originally appeared the ball hit the crossbar and stayed out of the goal but after the referees got together they ruled it cross the goal line, making the score 2-1.

CUW held a 19-9 advantage in shots as Ciesielczyk led all players with four. Klumpp and Pfannerstill each finished with three shots for the Falcons, as did Jenna Kizlik for UWS. Paige Meyer made six saves for the Blue Devils in 80:33 of action, while Kristi Schurhammer stopped all four shots she faced in relief of Meyer.

CUW (3-2-0) will look to continue its winning streak Wednesday when they host in a non-conference match at Fitting Field. The match, which continues a stretch of four straight at home for the Falcons, is set for a 4:00 p.m. start with live coverage being available courtesy of CUWFalcons.com.
