Women's Soccer dominates St. Norbert in non-conference victory

MEQUON, Wis. – After a pair of one-goal losses against high quality competition to begin the season, the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Soccer entered Saturday's matchup against St. Norbert College in search of its first victory of the season. The Falcons responded in a big way, downing 2013 NCAA Tournament participant St. Norbert College 4-0 Saturday at Fitting Field.

Junior Carley Pfannerstill scored two goals to lead a balanced CUW attack. Pfannerstill netted the first two goals of the contest for the Falcons as they built a 3-0 lead before the first 45 minutes was played.

Junior Brittanny Klumpp (Rubicon, Wis.) added a goal and an assist for the Falcons, while junior Emily Ciesielczyk (Waukesha, Wis.) assisted on a pair of goals. Senior Anna Hirssig (Rochester, Minn) added a goal for CUW in the win.

Pfannerstill (Grafton, Wis.) put the Falcons up 1-0 at the 23:56 mark when she took a pass from freshman McKenna Kowalski (Milwaukee, Wis.) for her first goal of the season. Pfannerstill received the pass and then sprinted past the Green Knights defense before beating the keeper and giving the Falcons the edge on the scoreboard.

She then struck just over eight minutes later, giving CUW a 2-0 edge. Her, Klumpp and Ciesielczyk showed great teamwork on the Falcons second goal, showcasing just how dangerous of a trio they can be at the forward position. Ciesielczyk made a great touch to Klumpp who sent a cross the way of Pfannerstill who was there to beat the keeper for her second tally of the day.

Just 8:01 later CUW was on the board again as Ciesielczyk sent a corner the way of the 6-0 Hirssig who used her height to net a header goal at the 40:04 mark. That same play was the result of many Falcons goals a season ago when Hirssig posted a breakout junior season.

Klumpp then put the finishing touches on SNC with just under 15 minutes to play in the game when she took a cross from Pfannerstill to make the score 4-0. The goal was Klumpp's second of the season.

Sophomore Ariana Worthing (Saginaw, Mich.) picked up her first win of the season by making six saves and playing the full game for CUW. Her counterpart, Sara Platzer, finished with nine saves as CUW held a 13-6 advantage in shots on goal.

CUW (1-2-0) will look to build off Saturday's win Wednesday evening in a trip to North Park. The Falcons and Vikings are set for a 7:00 p.m. start in Chicago.
