Padilla wins MSOE Invitational

MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- Concordia Wisconsin's Marco Padilla led the wrestling team on Saturday, going 4-0 on the day to win the 125-pound weight class at the MSOE Invitational.

The sophomore won a tight 10-9 match in the finals over UW-Oshkosh's Denis Murphy to win the 125 weight class day. The Elmwood Park, Illinois native finished his day with a 4-0 record. The Falcons finished sixth out of 11 teams at the tournament.

Padilla won four decisions, including a 5-3 match over Central's Chase Poston in the semifinals on his way to the championship. It's the first collegiate title for Padilla. He improved to 10-6 on the season.

Senior Ramiro Vasquez (Yuma, Ariz.) finished fourth at 149 lbs., and freshman Bryce Karben (Coleman, Wis.) was sixth at 157 lbs. Senior Alex Montbriand (Barlett, Ill.) was 3-2 on the day at 174. Junior Merrick O'Donnell (Huntington Beach, Calif.) at 184 and freshman Josh Te Stroetre (Cedar Grove, Wis.) at 165 each went 2-2 on the day. Te Stroete improved to 11-5 on the season.

The Falcons (1-0) next travel to the Gator Boots Duals in Nashville, Tennessee on December 21.
