Wrestling hosts 27th CUW Open

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin Falcons hosted the 27th annual CUW Open on Saturday in the R. John Buuck Field House.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Val Kochiu (Oak Creek, Wis.) defeated three opponents to make it to the quarterfinals in the 141 weight class. The sophomore took down Jacob Barnett with a 15-0 technical fall, then Marc Fleenor of North Central by fall at 5:51, then finally Brock Rathbun of Wartburg by another fall in 5:37. His winning streak ended in the quarterfinals to eventual 141 class champion Hazen Rice of UW-Whitewater.
- Josh Te Stroete (Cedar Grove, Wis.) defeated Tommy Makela with a 19-3 technical fall in the opening round of the 165 class.
- Marco Padilla (Elmwood, Park, Ill.) defeated Shuji Mizoguchi of North Central in the second round of the 125 class in a 13-5 major decision.
- Alex Montbriand (Bartlett, Ill.) won in the first round against Will Dixon of Wabash with a 7-3 decision in the 174 class.
