Three-Goal Third Lifts Falcons Past Vikings

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's hockey team picked up its second win in as many days against the Lawrence Vikings on Saturday after notching three goals in the game's final period of play. The effort secured a comeback victory for the Falcons, having ascended from a 2-0 deficit early in the second period.

Lawrence picked up the first period's lone goal, as Beth McArthur recorded her first of the season to put the Vikings ahead.

Lawrence expanded its advantage just 14 seconds into the second frame after a Sofia Alvarez goal. However, Concordia would erase the doubled lead just 21 seconds later, as freshman Naomi Black (Ottawa, Ont.) collected her fifth goal of the 2023-24 campaign. After getting a goal in the period's opening minute, the Falcons would get another in the final minute, knotting the score by way of a goal by sophomore Charlotte Toor (Hartland, Mich.).

As the 2-2 score was carried into the second intermission, the Falcons dominated the final 20 minutes of the game, outshooting the Vikings 20-3. While the sustained pressure paid off, the results were heavily consolidated, as all three third-period tallies took place within a 2:11 span late in the frame. Toor's second goal of the evening represented the go-ahead score for the Falcons, picking up a loose puck and depositing it into the net with just under six minutes remaining in the contest. Junior Olivia Kurtz (Plainfield, Ill.) scored on a two-on-one shortly afterward, and sophomore Makayla Spejcher (Green Bay, Wis.) picked up another score just 25 seconds later to grant the Falcons a three-goal lead.

Junior Kami McCardle (Jackson, Wis.) recorded 18 saves for the Falcons in the contest, while Toor and freshman Ella Tuccitto (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) led the team with seven shots on goal.

Concordia will have exactly a month off before getting the chance to push its win streak to three games. The Falcons' next contest will take place on January 9 against the Wisconsin-Stevens Point Pointers.
