Falcons Fall Short Against Foresters

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Concordia women's hockey dropped to 1-5-0 in its 2023-24 campaign on Friday night, taking a loss in a close 4-3 contest with the Lake Forest Foresters.

Lake Forest opened the scoring at 3:37 in the first period on the power play, capitalizing on a penalty that had occurred only seven seconds prior. Victoria Liu would take credit for the opening goal, while picking up an assist on the Foresters' next goal at 14:04, scored by Tallulah Bryant.

The Falcons struck back just 34 seconds later, as fresh Mackaylan McGown (Inver Grove, Minn.) scored off of a pass from sophomore Makayla Spejcher (Green Bay, Wis.) after a turnover. Concordia would draw back to even almost immediately afterwards, as freshman Naomi Black (Ottawa, Ont.) capitalized on a deflection off of a skate in front of the net just 36 seconds after the Falcons' first goal.

The Foresters would regain the lead at 13:20 in the second period, as Zara Post picked up a loose puck in the offensive zone and fired it into the Concordia goal. The lead would be expanded back to two goals after a redirect on a Lake Forest shot found the back of the net in the closing minute of the second period.

Concordia would cut the lead in half early in the third period at 4:44 on a shot by  Spejcher on the power play.

Despite putting strong pressure on the Foresters for the remainder of the third, the Falcons would be repeatedly denied down the stretch, and were unable to get the equalizer before the game clock struck zero.

Junior goaltender Kami McCardle (Jackson, Wis.) registered 13 saves for the Falcons on the evening.

Concordia will be back on the ice on Friday, Nov. 17th, to take on the Vikings of Lawrence at the Ozaukee Ice Center, with the puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m.
