No. 8 Adrian Bests CUW

MEQUON, Wis. – Friday night saw the women's hockey team fall against the Bulldogs of Adrian, a team ranked eighth in last week's United States College Hockey Online (USCHO) polls, 9-1.

With the loss, the Falcons dropped to 3-7-0 overall and 3-4-0 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play.

The first period saw neither team able to find the back of the net, as both teams exhibited stifling defense.

This defensive battle would continue through the first half of the second period.

But, with 10:26 remaining in the second period, Adrian found the back of the net on the power play to take the 1-0 lead.

Adrian would tack on another goal to make it 2-0.

Nearly four minutes later, the Falcons would respond with their own goal, as sophomore Makayla Spejcher (Green Bay, Wis.) slid the puck over to junior Savannah Hutchins (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.). With the puck at her stick, Hutchins ripped a high shot past the Bulldog goalkeeper to cut Adrian's lead in half.

With the goal, Hutchins has scored in two of CUW's last three games, while Spejcher recorded her fourth assist of the season.

In the loss, senior goaltender Annalina Van Hercke (Castle Rock, Colo.) recorded 35 saves, while junior goaltender Kami McCardle (Jackson, Wis.) tallied eight saves.

However, the Bulldogs would respond, adding three goals to enter the second intermission with a 5-1 lead.

Meanwhile, the third period saw Adrian extend their lead and secure the 9-1 victory.

The Falcons will return to the ice tomorrow, Dec. 2nd, to square off against the nationally ranked Bulldogs of Adrian at the Ozaukee Ice Center, with the puck drop scheduled for 3 p.m.
