Marian Slips Past Women's Hockey

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - The Concordia Wisconsin women's hockey team took a close loss to the Marian Sabres on Thursday night, falling in a low-scoring 2-1 contest that saw all scoring take place in the opening period.

Olivia Church found the game's opening tally for the Sabres, notching her first-career goal on a breakaway just over the midway point of the first. Logan Crawford found the back of the net for Marian just 51 seconds later to double the lead.

Freshman Ella Tuccitto (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) joined the scoring parade after 1:16 had elapsed, sneaking the puck under the crossbar on a breakaway to cut the lead in half. The goal marked her tenth of the season to become the first Falcon to hit double-digits in scoring. Senior Amanda Carney (Ottawa, Ont.) and freshman Ava Litkey (Kenosha, Wis.) picked up assists on the play for Concordia to register their sixth and fourth helpers of the season, respectively.

Neither squad found the back of the net for the remainder of the game, and the Sabres would walk away from the contest with the 2-1 win in hand.

Senior netminder Annalina Van Hercke (Castle Rock, Colo.) tallied 24 saves for the Falcons en route to posting a .923 save percentage. In the second period, she recorded her 2000th career save.

Concordia will next battle the Aurora Spartans on February 2, seeking to even the season series at two wins apiece.
