Women’s Basketball bounces UW-Platteville

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The Falcons improved to 2-0 on the young season with a road victory at Wisconsin-Platteville. CUW defeated the Pioneers on Saturday, 77-61.

"It was great to see us start the game with so much confidence," said head coach Stacey Brunner-Jones. "I was very proud of our defense and how we controlled the tempo of the game. Being on the road so often in the early part of the season with such a young team requires a certain mindset and grit."

The Falcons jumped out to an early 9-2 lead and never looked back. Senior Baylee Barker (Oconomowoc, Wis.) scored four points in the run.

CUW nearly doubled up UWP in the first quarter. Junior Kaitlyn Foster (Janesville, Wis.) was perfect from the field and scored 10 points.

The Blue and White continued to pour it on in the second quarter to lead 48-26 at halftime.

The Pioneers outscored CUW in the second half, 35-29, but it would not be enough.

Baylee Barker led all players with 17 points and seven assists.

Senior Ashley Solberg (Waukesha, Wis.) pulled in a game-high eight rebounds.

Four Falcons reached double-digit points on Saturday. Barker with 17, sophomore Clara Chambers (Mineral Point, Wis.) with 12, junior Kaitlyn Foster (Janesville, Wis.) with 12 and sophomore Hannah Boettcher (Columbus, Wis.) at 10.

Junior Arianna Liddicoat (Watertown, Wis.) led the flock with two blocks, she also added five points and five rebounds.

The Falcon defense forced 15 turnovers on Saturday afternoon and scored 21 points off of the turnovers.
