No. 23 Softball Sweeps Lawrence

RHINELANDER, Wis. – The 23rd-ranked Falcons opened the 2024 campaign on Friday night. The Concordia Wisconsin softball team downed Lawrence, 11-3 and 10-1 to start off the season 2-0.

Senior Claudia Utz (Lockport, Ill.) started the scoring with a ball off the fence in center field that scored senior Sydney Erdmann (Geneva, Ill.) from second base in the first inning.

In the second inning, Sydney Erdmann singled up the middle to score sophomore Rylie DuVal (Elgin, Ill.).

The Falcons scored three more runs in the third inning. Junior Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) started the inning with a missile over the centerfield fence.

Junior Jasmine Freeze (Bolingbrook, Ill.) then scored Claudia Utz on an infield blast. Senior Lexi Bridenhagen had a sacrifice fly that scored junior Megan Bloyer (Oregon, Wis.).

In the fourth inning, Jess Pozezinski sent her second ball over the fence to land Sydney Erdmann across home plate.

The Vikings scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning. The Falcons responded with four runs in the sixth inning.

Claudia Utz doubled to centerfield to also allow senior Madi Wheat (Coweta, Okla.) to score.

Jess Pozezinski scored on a shot to the pitcher off the bat of Kaitlyn Way.

Lexi Bridenhagen allowed Claudia Utz to score on a sacrifice fly.

Rylie DuVal ended the game with a blast to shortstop that scored freshman Jenna Shadoski (Janesville, Wis.).

Jasmine Freeze threw a no-hitter on Friday night in the victory with six strikeouts. Freshman Gianna Carone (Crystal Lake, Ill.) made her collegiate debut on Friday and had a strikeout.

Sydney Erdmann, Jess Pozezinski and Claudia Utz all had three hits.

Freshman Kaitlyn Way (Blaine, Minn.) recorded her first collegiate hit in game one.

The Falcons exploded for six runs in the second inning.

Senior Gabbi Gaziano (Beloit, Wis.) started the game with a fielder's choice that scored Claudia Utz.

Junior Adrianna Martinez (Chicago, Ill.) then sent the ball into the gap in left-center field that plated Gabbi Gaziano and Megan Bloyer.

Sydney Erdmann singled through the right side of the infield to score Martinez. Erdmann then scored on an error.

Madi Wheat scored in the second inning when she scored on a wild pitch.

In the fourth inning, Claudia Utz started the scoring with a single to left field that scored Erdmann.

A double through the gap for Megan Bloyer scored Claudia Utz and Jess Pozezinski.

Sophomore Taylor Jacobson (Kenosha, Wis.) had her first career hit with a double up the middle that scored Bloyer.

The Vikings scored their lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Freshman Emma Shellstrom (San Diego, Calif.) shined in her collegiate debut with four strikeouts. Freshman Kylie Strupp (Slinger, Wis.) and sophomore Jaylin Gremminger (Oakfield, Wis.) closed out the Vikings in the fifth.

Sophomore Maggie Plahmer (Slinger, Wis.) also had her first collegiate hit in game two.

The Falcons return to action on Saturday against Wisconsin-La Crosse.
