Softball Sweeps Doubleheader at LaGrange

LAGRANGE, Ga. - The Concordia Wisconsin softball team notched a pair of wins over the LaGrange Panthers on Wednesday, taking the two contests by 14-7 and 8-5 victories. Through the two wins, the Falcons bumped their season record to two games over .500 while also securing their second three-game winning streak of the year.

The day's first contest saw the Falcons take a 14-7 victory, which marked the team's highest-scoring win since April 2022.

Junior Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) kicked off the offensive outburst early for the Falcons, opening the scoring with her seventh home run of the season. LaGrange put three runs on the board in the bottom half of the inning, but Concordia answered with six runs in the top of the third. The effort was spearheaded by a grand slam from junior Jasmine Freeze (Bolingbrook, Ill.), granting a 7-4 advantage.

Freeze would also tally a two-run blast in the fifth inning, which was capped off by a steal of home by junior Adrianna Martinez (Chicago, Ill.) to put the Falcons ahead 11-4.

LaGrange earned back a trio of runs in the fifth inning, but Concordia rebuilt the seven-run advantage after RBI singles by Freeze and junior Megan Bloyer (Oregon, Wis.), as well as a Pozezinski score after a wild pitch.

The seven-RBI performance from Freeze was enough to tie her own program record, set in a 2023 victory over Lakeland.

Martinez recorded the win on the mound, striking out four batters in 3.1 innings.

The second contest of the day featured a seventh-inning comeback by Concordia, which trailed by two runs through six frames.

After the 14-run emergence in the opening game of the doubleheader, LaGrange managed to slow the Falcons' offense early in the second half of competition, holding the team to just three runs in the first five innings. Martinez batted in a run in the second by way of a groundout before sophomore Rylie DuVal (Elgin, Ill.) doubled to right center field in the third to pull Concordia within one run. The Panthers built their lead up to 5-1, but the Falcons snatched another run back after a wild pitch in the fifth inning.

With one out in the top half of the seventh inning, Bloyer brought Concordia within one score before Freeze continued her dynamic day with a two-RBI triple to put the Falcons ahead. Senior Gabbi Gaziano (Beloit, Wis.) and DuVal also contributed, sending back-to-back rockets into left-center field to bring another two runs across the plate for the Falcons, leaving the team with five runs to take a commanding 8-5 lead.

After tossing 2.2 scoreless innings, sophomore Jaylin Gremminger (Oakfield, Wis.) shut down the offense in the bottom half of the seventh, securing Concordia's second victory of the day.

The Falcons will search for their fourth consecutive win in their next outing against the 6-0 Wisconsin-Oshkosh Titans on March 15.
