Falcons Tango With Top-20 Teams

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Concordia Wisconsin softball team opened the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III Kickoff Classic on Saturday. The Falcons battled No. 20 Transylvania and No. 12 Belhaven, but fell, 8-7, and 51, respectively. The Falcons are now 3-3 on the young season.

The Falcons started the scoring on Saturday with a single to left field that scored senior Sydney Erdmann (Geneva, Ill.) after she started the game with a double.

The Pioneers picked up five runs in the first two innings.

The Falcons fought back in the third inning when junior Megan Bloyer (Oregon, Wis.) blasted the ball over the centerfielder's head to clear the bases of senior Claudia Utz (Lockport, Ill.), junior Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) and senior Emily Walters (Waupun, Wis.) on a double with two outs.

Transylvania tallied another run in the sixth inning to push the lead to 6-4.

The Blue and White reclaimed the lead with a three-run home run for the left-field fence from Jess Pozezinski that landed Emily Walters and sophomore Rylie DuVal (Elgin, Ill.) on home plate.

The Pioneers escaped with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to claim the victory.

Freshman Gianna Carone (Crystal Lake, Ill.) did a great job of silencing the Pioneer bats on Saturday and had two strikeouts.

Jess Pozezinski led the contest with two hits.

The Falcons finished the day against the 12th-ranked Blazers of Belhaven.

The Blazers scored the first five runs of the contest.

The Falcons landed their run with a home run from Jess Pozezinski to left field.

Freshman Emma Shellstrom (San Diego, Calif.) secured two strikeouts in the start on Saturday.

The Falcons close the tournament on Sunday against No. 9 Virginia Wesleyan and Mary Hardin-Baylor.
