Softball Sunk in Doubleheader Against Undefeated Titans

OSHKOSH, Wis. - In its first game competition since a cluster of outings over the spring break week, the Concordia Wisconsin softball team battled the Wisconsin-Oshkosh Titans in a Friday doubleheader. The Titans took both games by a close margin, pushing their record to 7-0 on the season.

The opening duel of the day saw Wisconsin-Oshkosh jump out to an early lead, compiling six runs in the first three innings of play. The Falcons managed to climb back into contention with a late surge, as senior Claudia Utz (Lockport, Ill.) put Concordia on the scoreboard with an RBI double in the fourth inning.

Junior Megan Bloyer (Oregon, Wis.) sent an additional two runs across the plate for the Falcons two frames later, cutting the Titans' initial lead in half.

After scoring Concordia's opening run of the day, junior Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) found herself on the other side of a scoring play in the seventh inning, batting in senior Emily Walters (Waupun, Wis.) with a double to left-center field. Ultimately, the comeback effort fell short, as the Titans collected a 6-4 victory.

Junior Adrianna Martinez (Chicago, Ill.) tossed five innings for the Falcons, allowing just one earned run in the contest.

In similarity to the opening contest of the doubleheader, the Titans found their runs early in the second game. After Wisconsin-Oshkosh plated two runs in the second inning, neither squad would find the scoreboard for the remainder of the game.

Concordia battled in search of the game's tying runs in the seventh inning, as Martinez and freshman Kaitlyn Way (Blaine, Minn.) tallied hits early in the frame. After a fielder's choice allowed senior Madi Wheat (Coweta, Okla.) to reach base safely, the Falcons had their bases-loaded situation shut down, suffering a 2-0 defeat.

Freshman Emma Shellstrom (San Diego, Calif.) threw a complete game for the Falcons, going the distance for the first time in her career.

Concordia will look ahead to its next outing against the 2-10 Ripon Red Hawks on March 20.
