Moehn nets two in hometown return as Men's Soccer shuts out Marian

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Sophomore Jordan Moehn scored two goals in the opening 10 minutes of play in helping lead the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Soccer team to a 3-0 win over Marian University Wednesday night at Smith Fields.

For Moehn (Fond du Lac, Wis.) the two goals were extra meaningful as he was playing in his hometown in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference contest. The sophomore showed no nerves, scoring 5:56 into play and adding his second goal just 1:37 later for a quick 2-0 lead. The two goals were a career-best for Moehn as he ran his total to six for the season.

Senior Diego Campos (Milwaukee, Wis.) put the finishing touches on the Sabres with a penalty kick score at the 30 minute mark. Campos' goal was part of a dominant opening half for the Falcons, despite the two teams each firing seven shots in the first 45 minutes.

Besides the Falcons dominance, the other story of the match was the eight cards issued in the match. Marian (5-9-0, 2-5-0 NACC) was the recipient of seven cards, six yellows and a red, while the Falcons were issued one yellow card. Overall the teams combined for 27 fouls, Marian with 15 and CUW whistled for 12.

Senior Eric Vogel (Itasca, Ill.) posted his second shutout of the season by stopping all four shots he faced. He picked up his fourth win of the 2014 campaign, while his counterpart, Bryce Woldt, stopped five shots in the loss.

Freshman Cobi Ortega (Evanston, Ill.) and Campos assisted on the first goal of the match for CUW. Campos started the play with a pass ahead to Ortega who found Moehn for a 1-0 lead. Senior Michael McCrone (Janesville, Wis.) finished with a match-high five shots, while Campos added three. Danny Heerhold posted a team-best four shots for the Sabres.

The win helped CUW continue its recent dominance over Marian. The Falcons have never lost to the Sabres in the NACC era (2006-present) and have a perfect record in those matches dating back to the 2003 season.

CUW (5-9-1, 3-3-0 NACC) will return to the pitch Saturday in a NACC road matchup at MSOE. The Raiders enter the tilt with an unblemished NACC record as CUW looks to become the first team to knock them off in league play. The match is set for a 3:30 p.m. start.
