Men's Soccer rebounds with NACC road win over Lakeland

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. – Following a pair of overtime setbacks, the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Soccer team rebounded with a 3-1 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win over Lakeland College Tuesday afternoon.

The Falcons scored three first-half goals, building a 3-0 lead after 45 minutes of play. Lakeland would score early in the second half to cut the CUW lead to 3-1, but that would be all the scoring from that point allowing CUW to gain its first NACC win of the season.

Junior Keegan Van Dusseldorp, freshman Luis Loya and sophomore Jordan Moehn provided the scoring for CUW. Van Dusseldorp now leads the team with six goals, having scored five of those in Falcons wins this season.

Junior Alec Brew (Appleton, Wis.) picked up his first win of the season by stopping two of three shots he faced. The Falcons defense played well in front of Brew, allowing just four shots in the match, three of those coming on goal.

It was Van Dusseldorp (Burlington, Wis.) who got the Falcons on the board first Tuesday with an unassisted goal just 10:51 into play. He finished tied for second on the team with three shots, having entered play as the conference leader in shots attempted.

Loya (Bolingbrook, Ill.) put CUW up 2-0 at the 19:38 mark, scoring his second goal of the season. Loya's score was assisted by junior Bobby Russ (Wauwatosa, Wis.). Loya totaled six shots to lead all players.

Moehn (Fond du Lac, Wis.) then gave the Falcons a 3-0 advantage with 7:10 remaining in the first half. Senior Adrian Vargas (Monterrey, Mexico) assisted on the Moehn goal.

Lakeland (3-4-1, 1-1-0 NACC) would score its lone goal 5:31 into the second half on an unassisted goal from Mirko Tadic, his third of the season. Tadic finished with three of the four Muskies shots during the match.

CUW held a 16-4 edge in shots, including an 8-1 advantage in the opening half. Lakeland keeper Austin Ganzke recorded six saves in the loss.

CUW (3-6-0, 1-1-0 NACC) will return to the pitch Saturday with a non-conference matchup at UW-Oshkosh. The contest between the Falcons and Titans is scheduled for a noon start at Titan Stadium.
