Van Dusseldorp, defense lead Men's Soccer to shutout win over Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ill. – Junior Keegan Van Dusseldorp has shown over his two-plus seasons in a Concordia University Wisconsin uniform that he has a knack for scoring. The junior once again showcased his scoring ability, finishing with both goals as the CUW Men's Soccer team shut out Monmouth College by a 2-0 score Saturday.

The Falcons also got a strong effort from its defense and goalkeeping Saturday as senior Eric Vogel (Itasca, Ill.) and junior Alec Brew (Appleton, Wis.) split the goalkeeping duties. Vogel, the goalie of record, started the contest and made five saves, while Brew made his season debut, stopping the only shot he faced in the second half.

The CUW backline of starters, juniors David Kulberg (Osseo, Minn.), Bobby Russ (Wauwatosa, Wis.) and Jake Barnes (Fort Atkinson, Wis.), as well as freshman Jeremy Jenich (Mundelein, Ill.) did an outstanding job as well. Also playing a role in the defensive efforts was freshman Cobi Ortega (Evanston, Ill.), while a strong group of midfielders played a key role Saturday as well.

Van Dusseldorp (Burlington, Wis.) scored his first goal at the 35:48 mark, netting an unassisted score. It was his fourth of the season, while his fifth of the year came at the 62:30 mark, also unassisted. Van Dusseldorp now has five of team's nine scores this season. The match also marked the fifth time in his career he has scored multiple goals in the game, and the second time this season.

The Falcons were outshot by a slight edge, 11-10 but did have a 7-6 advantage in shots on goal. Van Dusseldorp led the team with seven shots, four on goal, while senior Diego Campos (Milwaukee, Wis.) and sophomores Justin Clayton (Crete, Ill.) and Jordan Moehn (Fond du Lac, Wis.) each added one.

MC (1-3-0) had four players finish with a team-best two shots. Luke Cogan played keeper for the Scots, making five saves.

CUW (2-4-0) will play another Midwest Conference opponent tomorrow, visiting Knox College at 1:30 p.m.
