Elmhurst strikes in double overtime, downs Men's Soccer 1-0

ELMHURST, Ill. – For the second consecutive season Elmhurst College stunned the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Soccer team with a double overtime score. On Saturday night Michael DeLong scored at the 105:30 mark, handing CUW a 1-0 loss.

Last season at Fitting Field the story went exactly the same for the Falcons. After playing over 100 minutes of scoreless soccer, Elmhurst scored at the 106:56 mark to down CUW 1-0 last fall. Jordan Fletcher provided the overtime winner last season, while DeLong scored this year's goal off an assist from Josh Rudd.

The Falcons and Bluejays played a scoreless first half, despite CUW gaining a heavy advantage in shots. The Falcons posted 11 shots in the first 45 minutes of play compared to just three for Elmhurst, but neither team could find its way on the scoreboard.

The second half was even in terms of shots as both teams fired six. Again both defensives and keepers remained strong. Senior Eric Vogel (Itasca, Ill.) finished the match with three saves, while his counterpart, John Reglin stopped six shots in his shutout victory.

Junior Keegan Van Dusseldorp (Burlington, Wis.) led all players with 10 shots in the game, four of those on goal. Freshman Luis Loya (Bolingbrook, Ill.) added four shots for the Falcons. Brett Stiffler fired three shots, leading all Elmhurst players.

CUW (0-2-0) will return to the pitch Wednesday as they host St. Norbert College in the 2014 home opener. The match is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. from Fitting Field with live audio and stats being provided courtesy of CUWFalcons.com.
