Men's Hockey blanked by Marian in NCHA home game

MEQUON, Wis. – Marian University scored 37 seconds into Friday night's Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game and that was the only goal goaltender Josh Baker would have needed in the contest. The Sabres would add two more however as they shut out Concordia University Wisconsin, 3-0, at the Ozuakee Ice Center.

The home woes continued for the Falcons as they are just 2-5-4 in games played on their home ice. CUW has also dropped four out of five, tying the other game, since its six-game winning streak was snapped two weeks ago.

Tyler Klein put Marian up 1-0 just 37 seconds into play when he netted a wraparound goal. Klein's score was assisted by Matt Williams and Ben Morgan. The Sabres would extend their lead to 2-0 in the opening period when Jacob Ryd scored at the 9:16 mark off assists from Aaron Leonard and Mike Zajac.

The second stanza saw no scoring despite both teams getting several power play opportunities. One positive the Falcons can take away from Friday night is its penalty kill continues to play at a high rate, killing off all seven of Marian's power play chances. CUW has now killed off 29 of the last 30 power plays they have faced. Unfortunately the Falcons were also 0-for-7 with an extra skater Friday night.

Klein would add his second goal of the game late in the third period to make the final score 3-0 in favor of the visitors. Williams added his second assist, while Brodie Jamieson also assisted on the Sabres third score.

Baker was outstanding between the pipes for Marian as he made 36 saves, including 17 in the third period. Sophomore Domingo Torrenueva (Oshawa, Ontario) wasn't bad in net for the Falcons, making several difficult saves, but was credited with the loss despite stopping 26 shots.

CUW (8-8-4, 5-6-2 NCHA) will get another crack at Marian tomorrow night. The Falcons and Sabres will get together at 8 p.m. at the Blue Line Family Ice Arena.
