No. 1 UW-Eau Claire defeats Men's Hockey in non-conference play

MEQUON, Wis. – A four-goal period played a big part in No. 1 UW-Eau Claire's 7-0 victory over the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Hockey team Saturday night at the Ozaukee Ice Center. The loss was the fourth straight for the Falcons, three of those coming against top five teams.

UWEC, who is the reigning national champion, got two first period goals from Jon Waggoner en route to building a four-goal edge after 20 minutes of play. Waggoner scored at the 7:39 mark on the power play to put the Blugolds up 1-0 and Brian Nehring scored shorthanded off an assist from Waggoner to make the score 2-0 just 2:19 later.

Waggoner, Alex Olson and Charles Thauweld all finished with three points to pace the Blugolds balanced offensive attack. Ten different Blugolds recorded a point in the contest, six of those scoring at least two.

The Falcons finished the game with 29 shots and were only outshot by three as UWEC finished with a 32-29 edge. Jay Deo made 29 saves for the shutout, while freshman Morgan Hudson (Ottawa, Ontario) and sophomore Domingo Torrenueva (Oshawa, Ontario) each saw action between the pipes for the Falcons. Hudson finished with 19 saves and was the goalie of record, while Torrenueva recorded 11 saves after coming in midway through the second period.

CUW will return to action next weekend when they host Bethel University in the first annual Thanksgiving Cup series. The two teams will begin a tradition of meeting the day after Thanksgiving for a two-game series. The first game of this year's event is set for next Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Ozaukee Ice Center.
