No. 5/6 Adrian scores two late goals, downs Men's Hockey 3-1

ADRIAN, Mich. – Freshman Riley Storzuk scored a power play goal 8:17 into the third period as the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Hockey team drew even with highly-ranked Adrian College with just under 12 minutes remaining in Saturday's game. Unfortunately for the Falcons, Adrian would score twice down the stretch, gaining a 3-1 victory in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association action at the Arrington Ice Arena.

Storzuk (Wynyard, Saskatchewan) scored just nine seconds into the Falcons third power play opportunity of the contest. Recording assists on the equalizer were freshman Brett Penner (Medstead, Saskatchewan) and sophomore Jordan Thomas (Fontana, Calif.).

Adrian did a good job of making sure the Falcons momentum was stopped as they recorded the game-winning goal 3:48 later when Micki Mihailovich scored off assists from Jeremy Olinyk and Austin Hervey. Dustin Hebebrand added some insurance for the Bulldogs with 3:35 left in the game, making the final score 3-1.

Freshman goaltender Morgan Hudson (Ottawa, Ontario) played well in his collegiate debut as he made 31 saves to keep CUW in the game. James Hamby of AC recorded 18 saves in the win as Adrian outshot the Falcons, 34-19 in shots on goal.

Following last night's 94-penalty minutes contest, CUW and Adrian played more disciplined hockey, combining for just 16 penalty minutes, each team being shorthanded four times. Both teams also finished 1-for-4 on the power play, as Storzuk's goal was with an extra skater and the Bulldogs first score, courtesy of Ryan Gieseler, came on the power play.

The Falcons schedule doesn't get any easier as next weekend they play their first non-conference games of the season, both at the Ozaukee Ice Center. CUW will host UW-River Falls, who is receiving votes in the USCHO.com poll Friday night, before taking on No. 1 and defending national champion, UW-Eau Claire Saturday evening. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m. starts.
