Buzzer-beater falls short for Men's Basketball

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia Wisconsin had just 3.8 seconds and almost the length of the court to get a game-winning 3-pointer to find the bottom of the net, but it's attempt was inches short as Aurora walked away with a 75-73 victory in a critical NACC contest on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Spartans secured the No. 2 seed in the upcoming NACC Tournament, as they held on inside the R. John Buuck Field House after giving a seven-point lead in the second half.
- Concordia Wisconsin put together an impressive 26-13 scoring run over a seven-plus minute span in the second half to hold a 73-65 advantage with 2:53 left on the clock. However, they wouldn't score the remainder of the game, as Aurora made three layups and a trio of free throws to earn the come-from-behind victory.
- The Falcons couldn't get into a rhythm offensively in the first half, going 0-of-9 from downtown and it wasn't until Jake Jurss broke the cover on the bucket on the 12th long ball attempt with 15:20 to play in the game. Three more misses occurred before Jurss found the bottom of the net and sparked the fans.
- It was a much-needed victory with playoff implications on the line and because it means two-straight losses for Concordia Wisconsin during a time when momentum is important with the postseason on the horizon.
- Senior Eric Kittel (Brillion, Wis.) led the team with 15 points, five rebounds and five assists. Jurss (sophomore, Sheboygan, Wis.) had 13 points and six rebounds.
- Sophomore Andrew Fratzke (Winona, Minn.) had 10 points, seven rebounds and two blocks; while senior Montrell Hobbs (Milwaukee, Wis.) posted a season-high 10 points and five rebounds in 17 minutes off the bench.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The game was close, evident by the nine scoring ties and 13 lead changes.
- Concordia Wisconsin ended the game shooting 6-of-23 from outside and won the rebounding battle 38-29 (including 12-6 on offensive rebounds).
- Sophomore Noah Gosse (Green Bay, Wis.) tied a career-high with three steals.

THE OPPOSITION
- Ty Carlson led all players with 20 points (7-of-8 free throws), while Max Vickers drained three 3-pointers and tallied 17 points.
- Marcus Myers recorded 16 points and nine rebounds, but had seven turnovers.

NEXT ON THE SCHEDULE
- The Falcons have a busy week ahead with three games next week, beginning with a Tuesday 7 pm matchup against Edgewood.
