Courtside Notes: Basketball faces Spartans in DH
MEQUON, Wis. --Concordia Wisconsin's Men's and Women's Basketball host Aurora on Saturday at 2 and 4:15 pm in a NACC doubleheader inside the R. John Buuck Field House.

| • IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT: With Concordia Wisconsin's victory at Wisconsin Lutheran on Tuesday, it puts them in the driver's seat for the top-seed in the NACC Tournament. The Falcons need to win out to avoid any tiebreaker situations and make it less stressful. They have been the No. 1 seed four times before, including last season. |
• NACC WINNING STREAK SNAPPED: Concordia Wisconsin was cruising past NACC opponents since January 10 with seven-straight victories, before it was halted on Wednesday night at Wisconsin Lutheran (L, 81-84). The Falcons know how to put a positive streak together, evident by their nine league wins in a row to end the regular season last year. | ||
| • A SECOND CHANCE: The Falcons are excelling at giving themselves a second opportunity at scoring lately. They are averaging 13.8 second chance points over the last four games and twice this season accumulated 20-plus points on extra opportunities. |
• TOURNAMENT SEEDING ON THE LINE: A victory over the Spartans will go a long way in determining the seeding for the NACC Tournament, which will start on February 22. The Falcons need to win their remaining games to own the tiebreaker over Aurora and clinch the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye. |

| • VALUE THE BALL: One of the many reasons why Concordia Wisconsin is atop the NACC standings is its ability to value the basketball. They are the best in league-only games in fewest turnovers per game (13.5) and have won the turnover battle in 14-of-17 conference contests. | • SHOOTOUT ON THE HORIZON: Aurora enters as the best 3-point shooting team in the NACC and fourth nationally, while CUW is fourth in the NACC. Both teams combine to make 21.6 triples per contest. In the last meeting between the two schools (Dec. 10) there were 24 long balls drained. | ||
| • DeLONG STILL ON PACE: Taylor DeLong is having one of the best shooting seasons in program history and is currently on pace to set the season record for field goal percentage. The forward has a 58.3 shooting percentage, which is ahead of Krista Mayyou's 56.8 percent set during the 2005-06 season. In addition, the senior currently sits atop the career record for field goal percentage (54.6) and is slightly ahead of Kristen Ruppe's 54.3 percent set from 2005-07. | • SECOND CHANCE SCORING IMPORTANT: Any time a team can score a second chance point, it puts salt in the wound for the opposition. The Falcons have been decent at scoring when given another opportunity (11.0 per game), but have just 15-second chance points the last two games. Concordia Wisconsin will need to be efficient with its extra possessions. | ||
| • WATCHING THE BEST: It's no secret the Falcons get defensive on the court and fans are watching history in the making. They are on pace to set the single-season record for defensive FG percentage (36.0) and 3-point FG percentage (24.9). Opponents have shot sub-30 percent in five games and below 25 percent from downtown in 14 matchups this season. |
• DOUBLE-DOUBLE MACHINE: Andrew Fratzke has matured during his sophomore year and has become a key piece to the Falcons success. This season he has seven double-doubles, with four of those coming in the past six games. Fratzke has elevated his scoring and rebounding average since the new year, which has resulted in the team's 8-3 record. |
