Tatum's two PRs pace Women's Track & Field at UWM Tune-Up Meet

MILWAUKEE – In a final meet before the NACC Indoor Championships, the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Track & Field team competed at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Tune-Up Friday evening.

Junior Karli Tatum (Milwaukee, Wis.) paced the Falcons with a pair of personal-bests in her two throwing events. Tatum posted a PR of 12.27 meters in the shot put and now ranks second in the NACC in the event. She added a 14.05 meters toss in the weight throw, which was a personal-best and ranks her third in the conference heading into next weekend.

CUW had a couple other PR in a throwing event on Friday, which was posted by senior Mary Heinz (Cedarburg, Wis.). Heinz added to the Falcons impressive depth in the weight throw by posting a mark of 12.17 meters, which now ranks her sixth in the conference. Andrea Kassees (Waukesha, Wis.) and Colleen Sauvey (De Pere, Wis.) also rank highly in the event heading into the indoor championships. Freshman Beth Garncarz (Milwaukee, Wis.) added a PR in the shot put with a toss of 10.40 meters.

Most of the remaining Falcons PRs came in running events, including a six-second personal-best effort in the mile by freshman Paulina Agnello (Brookfield, Wis.). Agnello has the second fastest time in the NACC this season after running a 5:18.21. Freshman Bethany Coop (Mora, Minn.) added a 5:25.56 in the mile, which ranks fifth in the NACC. Ashley Scheele (Kohler, Wis.) and Martha Kulberg (Maple Grove, Minn.) also posted new bests in the mile, clocking in at 5:41.59 and 6:07.36, respectively.

In the 3,000-meter run CUW received a huge PR from Larissa Schlitz (DeForest, Wis.) as she bested her previous time by 18 seconds, running a 10:56.78. She now ranks sixth in the NACC in the event.

CUW had several PRs in the 800, including a 2:24.68 by freshman Cassandra Sprotte (Abbotsford, Wis.), which ranks third in the NACC. Jessica Rice (Canton, Mich.) ranks fifth in the conference after running a PR of 2:28.69, while Nora Imperl (Greenfield, Wis.) also set a new personal mark with a time of 2:28.69.

The Falcons also gained some PRs in the shorter distances, including a 27.6 second 200-meter dash from freshman Lauren Erickson (Naperville, Ill.). Erickson ranks sixth in the conference in the event. Heinz posted a PR of 33.44 in the 200-meter dash, while Marissa Krohn (Brookfield, Wis.) posted a 10.93 in the 60-meter high hurdles.

Senior Emily Mauermann (Janesville, Wis.), an athlete who had scored her fair share of points at conference meets over her career, improved her standing in the NACC in a couple of events as well Friday. Mauermann now ranks eighth in the conference in the long jump after posting a leap of 4.68 meters, while having the fourth fastest time in the 400 (1:00.36).

The NACC Indoor Championships will take place next Saturday at UW-Parkside with the meet scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
