Women's Track & Field places second at NACC Outdoor Championships

MILWAUKEE – The Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Track & Field team had another impressive performance during the 2015 Outdoor season, this time closing the year with a second-place finish at the NACC Outdoor Championships. The Falcons scored 135.5 points, finishing second in the eight-team meet, behind only NACC Champions, Aurora University.

The throwing events, as well as other field events led the way for the Falcons over the two-day event. The Falcons throwers have been solid all season long and the NACC Championships was no exception. In four throwing events, the Falcons had 15 top-10 finishes, including five in the discus throw and four each in the shot put and hammer throw.

Senior Andrea Kassees (Waukesha, Wis.) placed fourth in both the shot put and discus, while adding a third place finish in the hammer throw. Colleen Sauvey (De Pere, Wis.) placed second in the hammer throw with a PR of 42.70 meters, while adding a PR and a sixth-place finish in the discus throw with a toss of 33.87 meters.

Karli Tatum (Milwaukee, Wis.) continued her strong season with a toss of 11.78 meters in the shot put, good for a second-place finish. Delaney Verba (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Beth Garncarz (Milwaukee, Wis.) added sixth and seventh-place finishes in the shot put with marks of 10.77 and 10.69 meters, respectively.

In the discus throw, following Kassees and Sauvey was Verba with a PR toss of 31.98 meters, while Mary Heinz (Clintonville, Wis.) placed eighth with an impressive PR of 30.77 meters. Garncarz was the fifth Falcon to place in the top 10 in the event, tossing 29.83 meters.

The Falcons also had a strong showing in the javelin throw as Marissa Krohn (Brookfield, Wis.) placed second with a toss of 33.68 meters, while McKenna Daulton (Hudson, Wis.) placed sixth at 27.39 meters. Daulton also added a fourth-place finish in the pole vault (2.90 meters), while Ariana Koehler (Lake Geneva, Wis.), Kailey Koehler (Lake Geneva, Wis.) and Alisa Dorothy (Waukesha, Wis.) earned sixth, seventh and ninth place finishes, respectively.

In other field events, CUW had two top-five finishers in the long jump in Janesville, Wis. natives Emily Mauermann and Tatiana March. Mauermann leaped 5.07 meters, a new PR, for a third-place spot, while March also had a new PR with a leap of 4.94 meters, good for fifth place. Chloe Bachman (St. Peter, Minn.) added a mark of 9.54 meters in the triple jump for a fifth-place finish for the Falcons.

On the track, CUW had several strong performances as well, including Moira Kilgas (Omro, Wis.) who placed third in both the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles. Kilgas ran to a time of 16.62 in the 100-meter hurdles, which was good for a new school record, while adding a PR time of 1:08.8 in the 400-meter hurdles.

Also on the track, Cassandra Sprotte (Abbotsford, Wis.) placed third in the 800-meter run, while Ashley Scheele (Kohler, Wis.) added a fourth-place finish in the 10,000-meter run. Mauermann added a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash and a sixth-place spot in the 200.

The Falcons will have some athletes compete in last chance meets as the Outdoor season winds down over the next few weeks.
