Women's Track & Field takes part in Tadd Metzger Invitational

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Track & Field team competed in its second meet of the season Friday evening, this time at the Tadd Metzger Invitational hosted by Carthage College.

The Falcons got a couple of strong performances in the throwing events on Friday, led by senior Andrea Kassees (Waukesha, Wis.) and junior Karli Tatum (Milwaukee, Wis.). Kassees set a PR in the weight throw with a mark of 14.07 meters, a personal best. That distance also ranks her second in the NACC this season. She added a seventh-place finish in the shot put, recording 11.23 meters.

Tatum didn't PR on Friday, but did record the second best shot put mark of the season in the NACC, with a toss of 11.40 meters. The only mark better this year was Kassees in the season-opening meet. Tatum also placed fifth in the weight throw at 13.79 meters. Sophomore Colleen Sauvey (De Pere, Wis.) recorded a PR in the weight throw, finishing seventh with a toss of 13.10 meters. Sophomore Delaney Verba (Milwaukee, Wis.) also set a new PR in the event at 10.41 meters.

CUW had a strong team effort in the mile run Saturday, finishing with four runners in the top 12 and now have four of the top six times in the NACC in the event. Marya Haegler (West Bend, Wis. - pictured) paced the team with a 5:22.92, ranking second in the conference in the mile. She placed fourth in the event and was followed closely by freshman Paulina Agnello (Brookfield, Wis.) who clocked in at 5:24.64. Another freshman, Bethany Coop (Mora, Minn.) finished the race in 5:27.54, while sophomore Larissa Schlitz (DeForest, Wis.) ran a 5:32.93.

Agnello also turned in a fourth-place finish in the 600-meter run Saturday, running a 1:50.92. Another freshman, Cassandra Sprotte (Abbotsford, Wis.), placed seventh in the 400-meter dash, running a 1:03.76. Sprotte now owns the sixth best time in the NACC in that event.

Freshman Lauren Erickson (Naperville, Ill.) placed seventh in the 55-meter dash, clocking in at 7.67 seconds. She ran a 7.65 in the prelims to qualify for the finals, which is the fourth-best time in the conference this season. Erickson also ranks eighth in the 200-meter dash after running a 27.95. Freshman Nora Imperl (Greenfield, Wis.) turned in a 2:33.37 in the 800-meter run, ranking sixth in the NACC.

The Falcons will return to action next weekend when they compete at UW-Stevens Point. CUW will compete Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
