Softball slugs in game two win, splits doubleheader at MSOE

MILWAUKEE – A six-run fifth inning in game two helped the Concordia University Wisconsin Softball team salvage a split in a NACC doubleheader at MSOE Sunday. The Falcons won game two, 10-4, after falling in the opener, 4-3.

THE BASICS
- Final Scores:
MSOE 4, CUW 3; CUW 10, MSOE 4
- Location: MSOE Athletic Field – Milwaukee
- Records: CUW 20-16, 10-10 NACC; MSOE 25-13, 12-10

CUW 10, MSOE 4
- The Falcons erased a 4-1 deficit with a six-run fifth inning in game two. CUW scored nine times in its final three at-bats en route to the 10-4 victory. Sara Rosenow (Kimberly, Wis.) had a two-RBI triple in the fifth and Molly O'Connell (New London, Wis.) added an RBI double in the six-run frame.

- The Falcons added two more runs in the sixth on a two-RBI double from Becky Bonnin (Kenosha, Wis.). Allison Peters (Elk Grove, Ill.) rounded out the scoring for CUW with a solo home run in the seventh.

- CUW totaled 13 hits in the game two victory with Maddie Zazas (Mundelein, Ill.) recording three. O'Connell and Jamie Reiser (Ingleside, Ill.) each collected a pair of hits in the six-run victory. In total, nine players tallied a hit in the game two win.

- Nicole Lewis (Manhattan, Ill.) got the win in the circle, throwing four innings and allowing four runs, just two earned. Lewis struck out three before handing the ball off to Jenna Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) who was dominant in earning the save for CUW. Pozezinski allowed just two hits and no runs in three innings of work.

MSOE 4, CUW 3
- The Falcons dropped the opener when the Raiders walked off in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Kiki Davis. CUW had tied the game in the top half of the seventh, scoring two on a single off the bat of O'Connell.

- MSOE plated three runs in the third, building a 3-0 lead before the Falcons scored once in the top of the fourth. Zazas drove in Peters in the fourth for the Falcons run.

- O'Connell tossed a complete game for the Falcons, throwing 6.1 innings and allowing four runs. Sara McConnell threw a complete game of her own for MSOE, striking out five and allowing three runs.

- Peters paced the CUW attack with two hits and a triple. Rosenow added a double in the opener.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Falcons moved to 10-10 in the NACC standings with the win and could still tie for fifth in the final regular season standings. Unfortunately, even with a sweep over Edgewood Monday, CUW would fall short of reaching the NACC Tournament due to tiebreakers. MSOE clinched the fifth seed and Wisconsin Lutheran will be the sixth seed in the NACC Tournament.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will close the 2018 season tomorrow at Edgewood. First pitch is set for noon.
