Softball finishes 2-2 at Finlandia Dome Tournament

MARQUETTE, Mich. – For the second straight day, the Concordia University Wisconsin Softball team split a pair of games at the Finlandia Dome Tournament. On Sunday, the Falcons opened with a 7-2 win over UW-Stevens Point before falling to UW-Superior, 12-6. CUW finished the Dome Tournament with a 2-2 record which included handing the Pointers their only loss.

THE BASICS
- Final Scores:
CUW 7, UW-Stevens Point 2; UW-Superior 12, CUW 6
- Location: Superior Dome – Marquette, Michigan
- Records: CUW 2-2; UWSP 3-1; UW-Superior 2-1

CUW 7, UWSP 2
- As they did in a win over St. Scholastica Saturday, the Falcons used the late innings to get the win over the Pointers. The difference against UWSP was the fact the Falcons led the entire contest, but they did most of their damage in their final two at-bats. CUW scored two in the sixth and added four insurance runs in the seventh.

- Jamie Reiser (Ingleside, Ill.) paced the Falcons attack with three hits and Jenna Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) turned in a quality start for her first career collegiate win. Pozezinski threw five innings and allowed one earned run before turning the ball over to Nicole Lewis (Manhattan, Ill.) in the sixth inning. Lewis, who entered with a runner on second base and nobody out, made quick work of the Pointers in the sixth and got three more outs in the seventh for the save. She struck out three.

- Reiser drove in one run to go along with her three hits and Allison Peters (Elk Grove, Ill.) finished the contest 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Reiser and Peters both had their RBI hits in the seventh inning, helping the Falcons extend their lead.

UW-SUPERIOR 12, CUW 6
- The Falcons and Yellowjackets entered the bottom of the sixth inning tied at six before UW-Superior scored six times to break the game open.

- Molly O'Connell (New London, Wis.) and Peters paced the squad in game two with O'Connell recording two hits, one a triple, and a team-best three RBI. Peters added three hits, including a double for the Falcons. Reiser, Sara Rosenow (Kimberly, Wis.), and Kalli Roulette (Manitowoc, Wis.) all added doubles for CUW.

- The Falcons used three pitchers in the contest. O'Connell got the start and Lewis ended up getting the decision after throwing three innings in relief. Pozezinski tossed the final two-thirds of an inning.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will have a little time off before heading to Florida for a 10-game spring trip. CUW begins the trip March 10 with contests against Minnesota Morris (2 p.m. Eastern) and Millikin (7 p.m.).
