Softball concludes spring trip with wins over North Park, Stockton

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Softball team ended its 10-game Florida trip Thursday and did so in style, winning a pair of games. The Falcons opened the day with a wild 6-5 win over North Park before closing the trip with a 7-1 win over Stockton. The Falcons finished 6-4 in Florida.

CUW 6, NORTH PARK 5
- The Falcons scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, winning a wild opener, 6-5. The game was tied, 0-0, heading into the sixth inning before both offenses got going. North Park scored once in the top of the sixth and the Falcons answered with three runs in the bottom half. The Vikings responded with a four-run seventh before CUW won the game with the three-run seventh.

- Jenna Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) recorded her second walk-off hit of the trip, roping a bases-loaded single to score Janelle Wotruba (Green Bay, Wis.) to life the Falcons to the 6-5 win.

- Molly O'Connell (New London, Wis.) had a great game at the plate and picked up the win in the circle for the Falcons. The sophomore went 3-for-4 at the dish while throwing a complete game in picking up the win. She allowed five runs and struck out four in the win.

- Becky Bonnin (Kenosha, Wis.) added two hits for CUW while Sara Rosenow (Kimberly, Wis.) drove in two runs. Maddie Zazas (Mundelein, Ill.) doubled and scored two runs for the Falcons.

CUW 7, STOCKTON 1
- CUW made sure it didn't wait to score in game two, scoring four runs in the first inning. Zazas and Rosenow each recorded RBI doubles in the inning. Rosenow led the team with two hits, the double in the first and a triple later in the contest.

- Nicole Lewis (Manhattan, Ill.) threw a complete game, allowing just one earned run for her second win of the season. Lewis scattered seven hits and did not issue a walk. She gave up one run in the first before firing six-consecutive scoreless frames.

- Wotruba added two hits for the Falcons, who added two runs in the fourth and one in sixth for the seven-run total. The freshman had an RBI single in the fourth and then belted her first career collegiate home run in the sixth.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will return home to Wisconsin and are set to play the 2018 home opener a week from Saturday (March 24). CUW will host Northland in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
