Softball splits against Marian in NACC doubleheader

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – For the second time in three days, the Concordia Wisconsin Softball team battled a team near the top of the NACC standings in a league doubleheader played at Concordia Chicago. The difference Saturday was the Falcons took on Marian in a neutral site twinbill, splitting the two games with the Sabres. CUW won a wild opener, 7-6, before falling, 13-8, in game two.

CUW 7, MARIAN 6
- The Falcons trailed for much of game one but scored six runs over their final two plate appearances, including four in the seventh, for a 7-6 win. Maddie Zazas (Mundelein, Ill.) delivered a game-tying single in the seventh, and Jamie Reiser (Ingleside, Ill.) put the Falcons up 6-4 with a two-run double. CUW would add another seventh-inning run and Marian plated two in the bottom half of the last frame, but the Falcons held on for the one-run win.

- Jenna Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) pitched two innings, allowing three unearned runs, in gaining the win for the Falcons. Molly O'Connell (New London, Wis.) came on for the save, getting the final three outs in the seventh after entering in the middle of the inning.

- Zazas paced the offense with three hits, two RBI, and a run scored. Sara Rosenow (Kimberly, Wis.) started the comeback for the Falcons with a two-run home run in the sixth. Rosenow added a sacrifice fly in the seventh, driving in three runs in the win.

- Kalli Roulette (Manitowoc, Wis.) and O'Connell each collected two hits with O'Connell and Reiser finishing with doubles as well for CUW.

MARIAN 13, CUW 8
- The Sabres jumped all over the Falcons in game two, scoring 10 runs over the first three innings in building a 10-2 lead. CUW scored twice in each of its final three plate appearances but Marian would hold on for a 13-8 game two victory.

- The Falcons couldn't get Marian's leadoff hitter, Aly Fox, out in game two. Fox went 5-for-5 with three runs and three RBI. Both teams finished the second game with 16 hits.

- O'Connell and Reiser each tallied three hits for the Falcons while Pozezinski, Rosenow, and Becky Bonnin (Kenosha, Wis.) all collected two hits each. O'Connell and Reiser each homered in the win and O'Connell added a double as well.

- The Falcons will return home tomorrow for a NACC doubleheader against Aurora. First pitch is at 2 p.m.
