Softball routs Minnesota Morris, wins thriller over Millikin to open Florida trip

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Softball team opened up its 10-game Florida trip with a pair of wins Saturday, easily handling Minnesota Morris before winning an extra-inning thriller over Millikin. Jenna Pozezinski recorded a walk-off hit in the 3-2 win over Millikin to help cap off an exciting day. The Falcons rolled to a 12-2 win in five innings over the Cougars to begin the trip.

THE BASICS
- Final Scores:
CUW 12, Minnesota Morris 2; CUW 3, Millikin 2
- Location: Clermont, Florida
- Records: CUW 4-2; Minnesota Morris 1-5; Millikin 5-1

CUW 3, MILLIKIN 2 (F/8)
- The Falcons won a thriller in game two, scoring two runs in the bottom of the eight for the extra-inning win. Jenna Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) was the hero in the nightcap, recording a two-out walk-off hit in the eighth, plating Molly O'Connell.

- On the spring trip, games are played with the international tiebreaker meaning each team starts with a runner on second base in extra innings. Millikin, which tied the game in the seventh inning off of some Falcons miscues, took the lead in the top of the eight when Alyssa Voegele singled in Maggie Comerford.

- The Falcons tied the game on when Emma Schimberg (Random Lake, Wis.) scored after starting the inning on second base. Kalli Roulette (Manitowoc, Wis.) bunted Schimberg over and O'Connell singled and then got in a rundown between first and second, allowing Schimberg to sprint home for the tying run. O'Connell advanced to second on the play and later scored on the Pozezinski double.

- O'Connell turned in a solid effort in the circle, surrendering two unearned runs, one via the runner who was placed on second to start the eighth. She scattered seven hits and struck out two in eight innings. Cathy Lebryk pitched well for Millikin, giving up three runs, two earned, in 7.2 innings.

- Five different players collected hits for CUW with Pozezinski recording the only extra-base hit, the winning double. O'Connell and Becky Bonnin (Kenosha, Wis.) drove in runs for CUW.

CUW 12, MINNESOTA MORRIS 2 (F/5)
- The Falcons started their 10-game trip off on a high note with a 10-run thrashing of Minnesota Morris. CUW, which got rolling right away on an O'Connell (New London, Wis.) leadoff home run, used an eight-run fourth inning to easily handle the Cougars.

- O'Connell paced the Falcons with a three-hit effort as the sophomore leadoff hitter drove in three runs and scored twice in the 10-run victory. Senior Jamie Reiser (Ingleside, Ill.) went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Freshmen Janelle Wotruba (Green Bay, Wis.) and Pozezinski each collected two hits, while Bonin drove in a pair of runs.

- Pozezinski struck out seven batters in moving her record to 2-0 with a strong performance in the circle in the opener. She went the distance, scattering six hits over five innings with one of her two runs being earned.

- The Falcons were balanced in the win over the Cougars with all nine starters collecting at least one hit. CUW finished the game with 14 hits while limiting Minnesota Morris to six.
