Pitching leads way in Softball sweep over Northland

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin pitching staff allowed just four hits over two games as the Falcons shut Northland out of a doubleheader Friday afternoon. The 2018 home opener was a success for the Falcons as they recorded wins of 8-0 and 6-0, improving to 10-6 on the season.

CUW 8, NORTHLAND 0 (F/6)
- Nicole Lewis (Manhattan, Ill.) was the story of game one as she allowed just one hit and struck out eight over six dominant innings. Lewis also walked one, facing just two over the minimum in her third win of the season.

- The Falcons produced three innings with multiple runs scored – two in the first, two in the fifth, and three in the sixth. Molly O'Connell (New London, Wis.) paced the offense with three hits and three runs scored.

- Sara Rosenow (Kimberly, Wis.) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a triple for CUW in the opener, while Allison Peters (Elk Grove, Ill.) added two hits, including a double, and scored two runs. Jamie Reiser (Ingleside, Ill.) added a double for the Falcons, who finished the game with 11 hits.

CUW 6, NORTHLAND 0
- The Falcons strong pitching continued in game two as O'Connell and Jenna Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) combined for a three-hitter. O'Connell threw 5.2 innings, allowing two hits and punching out two Northland batters. Pozezinski got the final four outs for the Falcons.

- O'Connell again led CUW at the dish with two hits and two runs scored. She finished the day with five hits, five runs, and five steals from the leadoff spot.

- Becky Bonnin (Kenosha, Wis.) and Emma Schimberg (Random Lake, Wis.) each collected two hits in the nightcap. Peters added another double for the Falcons, finishing with one in each game.

- CUW again jumped out to an early lead, plating two runs in the first inning. The Falcons added three in the fifth and one in the sixth.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Falcons pitching staff has now thrown 19 consecutive scoreless innings. Lewis has thrown 12 of those innings, also throwing the final six scoreless frames in a Florida win over Stockton.  

UP NEXT
- CUW is set to host Alverno in a NACC-opening doubleheader Thursday. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at the CUW Softball Field.
