Softball splits NACC doubleheader with Dominican

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Softball team opened up Wednesday's doubleheader with one of its best performances of the year, resulting in a 9-1, six-inning win over Dominican. Unfortunately, the Falcons couldn't keep the momentum going in game two as the Stars secured a split via an 8-2 decision.

CUW 9, DOMINICAN 1 (F/6)
- The Falcons got strong pitching from Nicole Lewis (Manhattan, Ill.) and had the bats working in a 9-1 victory. Lewis ran her record to 5-3 with a complete-game effort, allowing four hits and striking out four in six innings. She gave up one run in the sixth, otherwise, the sophomore had the Stars off balance all game.

- CUW used a pair of big innings in the eight-run win, scoring three in the third and putting the game away with a five-run eighth. Jamie Reiser (Ingleside, Ill.) paced the Falcons at the plate by going 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Reiser was one of four Falcons to double in the game, hers an RBI two-bagger in the fourth inning.

- Molly O'Connell (New London, Wis.), Jenna Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.), and Kallie Roulette (Manitowoc, Wis.) all doubled in the win for CUW as well. Allison Peters (Elk Grove, Ill.) and Pozezinski each collected a pair of hits as the Falcons finished the game with 12 as a team. Eight-of-nine starters for CUW collected at least one hit in the win.

- Roulette's two-run double in the sixth inning put the eight-run rule into effect, the third time this season CUW has won via the eight-run rule.

DOMINICAN 8, CUW 2
- The Falcons jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a Reiser RBI single in the bottom of the first, but Dominican responded with big frames in the third and fourth innings. The Stars plated four in the third to take the lead and added three in the fourth to extend it.

- Becky Bonnin (Kenosha, Wis.) collected two hits to lead the Falcons in game two, one of those a double. O'Connell led off the game with a double for CUW.

- CJ Mardirosian was one of five Stars to tally two hits as the catcher went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI. Cat Klostermann doubled twice for Dominican in game two.

- Sydney Kuderna got the win in the circle, throwing a complete game with two strikeouts. Pozezinski took the loss for CUW, lasting 2.2 innings and giving up four runs.

- The Falcons are set to visit MSOE for a NACC doubleheader Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
