Softball swept in NACC twinbill at Benedictine

LISLE, Ill. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Softball team went on the road to face the defending NACC Champion Benedictine Eagles Friday afternoon. The Falcons swung the bat well in both games, but couldn't solve the Eagles, falling 8-5 and 10-8. Emily Chitwood of Benedictine hit a go-ahead grand slam in game two to complete the sweep for the Eagles.

BENEDICTINE 8, CUW 5 (Game One)
- Benedictine scored three runs in the second and one in the fourth in building a 4-0 lead in the opener before the Falcons responded with four in the top of the fifth. The Eagles had a quick answer, plating three in the fifth to build a three-run cushion.

- Sara Rosenow (Kimberly, Wis.) had a strong game for the Falcons in going 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, and two runs scored. Jamie Reiser (Ingleside, Ill.) and Kalli Roulette (Manitowoc, Wis.) each doubled in the game one setback.

- Chitwood homered for Benedictine while Angie Malsack had two hits, including a triple from the leadoff spot.

- Nicole Lewis (Manhattan, Ill.) took the loss for CUW, delivering a complete-game effort. Becky Karlinski went the distance for Benedictine in picking up the win.

BENEDICTINE 10, CUW 8 (Game Two)
- A six-run sixth inning completed a comeback and a sweep for Benedictine. The Falcons led 8-5 heading into the bottom half of the sixth before the Eagles scored five times. Chitwood delivered the big blow, a go-ahead grand slam with one out in the sixth.

- The Falcons built a lead thanks to three-run frames in the second and third, resulting in a 6-3 lead after three. Benedictine would cut the lead to 6-5 before CUW struck for two in the top of the sixth before the Eagles rallied for the win.  

- Roulette had one of the best games of her young collegiate career in game two, going 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI. Rosenow scored twice for the Falcons, as did Emma Schimberg (Random Lake, Wis.).

- Chitwood also got the win for Benedictine, throwing 4.1 innings of relief and allowing two runs, one earned. Molly O'Connell (New London, Wis.) took the loss for CUW. She was one of three pitchers to throw, along with Jenna Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) and Lewis.
