Softball picks up two wins Monday in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – A sixth-run sixth inning helped the Concordia University Wisconsin Softball team rally past Anderson to open Monday with a win on the Falcons Florida trip. CUW kept the momentum going from the Anderson win in picking up a 7-5 victory over Lake Forest, helping the Falcons improve to 4-2 on the trip.

CUW 7, ANDERSON 4
- The Falcons trailed 4-1 before rallying for six runs in the sixth inning in the opener. Maddie Zazas (Mundelein, Ill.), who drove in four runs in the game, had a bases-clearing double in the frame. The Falcons did all their damage with two outs as Becky Bonnin (Kenosha, Wis.) sparked the rally with two-out RBI double, bringing CUW to within two.

- Zazas finished the game with three hits and four RBI for the Falcons to pace the offense. Molly O'Connell (New London, Wis.), Zazas, Jenna Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.), and Bonnin all roped doubles for CUW.

- O'Connell went the distance in the circle, allowing four earned runs in her seven innings of work. She scattered 10 hits and three walks in a gutsy effort for the Falcons.

CUW 7, LAKE FOREST 5
- The Falcons jumped out to an early lead in the second game, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. The lead was short-lived as the Foresters scored four times in the bottom of the second. CUW would take the lead back with a run in the fourth and added two insurance runs in the fifth inning.

- O'Connell paced the Falcons in game two, collecting three hits from the leadoff spot. Zazas and Sara Rosenow (Kimberly, Wis.) added two hits each while Jamie Reiser (Ingleside, Ill.) hit a triple and scored two runs. Zazas also crossed home safely twice for the Falcons.

- Nicole Lewis (Manhattan, Ill.) picked up the win for CUW by pitching the final 3.2 innings, allowing just one run. Lewis struck out four and scattered three hits in a strong relief outing. Pozezinski got the start and gave up four unearned runs in 3.1 innings of work.  

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will be off Tuesday before playing two more Wednesday. CUW will battle Ohio Wesleyan at 11:30 am eastern before taking on Scranton at 2 p.m. eastern.
