Men's Tennis season comes to an end in NACC Tournament semifinals

MADISON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Tennis team saw its 2015 season come to an end Saturday with a NACC Tournament semifinal loss against MSOE at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium. The Falcons fell to the Raiders by a 5-2 score.

The loss means CUW will not advance to the NACC Tournament Final for the first time since the league began doing a team tournament in the 2011 season. CUW won the conference tournament in 2011, 2012, and 2013 and finished second last season.

The second-seeded Raiders advance to take on No. 1 Edgewood in the NACC Final later today. MSOE picked up two of three wins in doubles play and then won three singles matchups to get the five points needed to end the match. The Falcons two victories came at No. 1 doubles and No. 4 singles.

The No. 1 doubles pairing of Benjamin Nommensen (Waupaca, Wis.) and Brad Guendel (Greendale, Wis.) rolled to an 8-3 win, making the score 2-1 MSOE after doubles play. The Raiders won 8-6 at No. 2 doubles and netted an 8-5 victory in the No. 3 match.

In singles play, Guendel netted a 6-2, 6-4 win for the Falcons, but unfortunately the Raiders gained three wins the end the match at 5-2. No. 1 and 6 singles matches both went unfinished, but MSOE was leading both of those contests as well.

The Falcons season ends with a 9-12 mark, including a 6-2 record in the NACC, which was good for a third-place finish in the league.
