Men's Tennis opens season at ITA Regional/Midwest Open

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Tennis team opened its 2014-15 season this past weekend at the USTA/ITA Regional and Midwest Open. Both events were hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College.

The Falcons did not win a match at an event that draws several of the top players in the Midwest. CUW had one player, freshman Brad Guendel (Greendale, Wis.) compete in the USTA/ITA Regional, as he fell in his singles match in the round of 128.

Guendel also competed in the Midwest Open in doubles play with junior Yeongcheol Won (Hoengseong, South Korea). They fell 8-4 in doubles play, while sophomore Trevor Budewitz (Watertown, Wis.) and senior Steven Fritz (Berwyn, Ill.) dropped an 8-5 decision in doubles play. Sophomore Jonathan Schotte (Preston, Kan.) and senior Ryan Buffamonte (Kenosha, Wis.) also competed in doubles play.

Won, Budewitz, Fritz, Schotte, and Buffamonte all also competed in singles play during the Midwest Open.

CUW will be off until February 6 when they start the spring season against Ripon College. The Falcons will host that match, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Pleasant Valley Tennis & Fitness Club.
