Men's Tennis blanks Lakeland in NACC play

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Tennis team won its third straight NACC match, easily defeating Lakeland College Sunday at the CUW Tennis Courts. The Falcons won all nine matches against the Muskies.

The day started with three doubles wins for CUW, none closer than 8-3. The No. 3 duo of sophomore Trevor Budewitz (Watertown, Wis.) and freshman Nick Gold (Waukesha, Wis.) continued their impressive run with an 8-0 win. Budewitz and Gold won three doubles matches this weekend by a combined score of 24-1.

The No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams didn't have much trouble either Sunday. The No. 1 grouping of senior Benjamin Nommensen (Waupaca, Wis.) and freshman Brad Guendel (Greendale, Wis.) cruised to an 8-2 win, while the No. 2 team of freshmen Ceejay Schaffner (Winona, Minn.) and Ryan Rogers (Iron River, Mich.) picked up an 8-3 win.

In singles play the Falcons continued to impress with all six wins coming in straight sets. Two players, senior Steven Fritz (Berwyn, Ill.) and sophomore Jonathan Schotte (Preston, Kan.), picked up 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively.

Budewitz rolled to a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles while Nommensen followed suit with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 2. Guendel had no issues at No. 3 singles as he netted a 6-0, 6-1 win, while Schaffner posted a 6-0, 6-4 decision at the No. 4 spot.

The Falcons will return to action next Saturday in a pair of NACC road matches. CUW will first face Marian University at 10 am before heading to Madison to take on Edgewood College at 2 pm.
