Men's Tennis drops matches with Bethel and Calvin on spring trip

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Tennis team dropped a pair of matches over the past two days in Florida, falling to both Bethel University and Calvin College. The Falcons are on their spring trip in Florida, where they currently have a 1-3 record over four matches.

On Tuesday against Bethel the Falcons picked up just one win at No. 3 singles. Senior Benjamin Nommensen (Waupaca, Wis.) gained the victory for CUW as he played a closely contested match against Luke Palmquist of BU. Nommensen won the first set 7-5 before picking up a 7-6 (7-2) victory to close out Palmquist.

The rest of the singles matches went in favor of Bethel, all five going in straight sets. Bethel also swept doubles play for the 8-1 victory.

Against Calvin on Wednesday morning, CUW was able to pick up wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 4 singles. The No. 1 doubles pairing of Nommensen and freshman Brad Guendel (Greendale, Wis.) gained an 8-5 victory of the Knights' top team.

Guendel then rolled into singles play, picking up a 6-0, 6-3 victory at the No. 4 position for CUW. The remaining five singles matches went in favor of Calvin.

CUW will be back in action tomorrow when it closes out the spring trip against Grinnell College. The match is set to begin at 8:30 am (EST).
